भौतिक विज्ञानी अशोक सेन को ऑस्कर क्लाइन मेडल: यह सम्मान पाने वाले पहले भारतीय
भारतीय भौतिक विज्ञानी अशोक सेन को 2026 का ऑस्कर क्लाइन मेडल मिला है। वे यह सम्मान पाने वाले पहले भारतीय भौतिक विज्ञानी हैं। सेन बेंगलुरु के इंटरनेशनल सेंटर फॉर थियोरेटिकल साइंसेज़ (ICTS-TIFR) में प्रोफेसर हैं और आधुनिक स्ट्रिंग थ्योरी के निर्माताओं में गिने जाते हैं। उन्होंने 22 अक्टूबर को स्टॉकहोम विश्वविद्यालय में 'ग्रैविटी फ्रॉम स्ट्रिंग्स एंड स्ट्रिंग्स फ्रॉम ग्रैविटी' विषय पर स्मृति व्याख्यान भी दिया।
यह मेडल 1988 से स्टॉकहोम विश्वविद्यालय और रॉयल स्वीडिश अकादमी की नोबेल समिति द्वारा दिया जाता है। इससे पहले चेन-निंग यांग, स्टीवन वाइनबर्ग और हंस बेथे जैसे नोबेल विजेता इसे पा चुके हैं। सेन को 2012 में ब्रेकथ्रू प्राइज़, 2014 में डिराक मेडल, और भारत सरकार से पद्म श्री (2001) व पद्म भूषण (2013) भी मिल चुके हैं।
Physicist Ashoke Sen receives Oskar Klein Medal, the first Indian to win the honour
Indian physicist Ashoke Sen has been awarded the 2026 Oskar Klein Medal, becoming the first Indian physicist to receive the honour. Sen is a professor at the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS-TIFR) in Bengaluru and is regarded as one of the architects of modern string theory. He delivered the 2026 Oskar Klein Memorial Lecture, 'Gravity from Strings and Strings from Gravity', at Stockholm University on October 22.
The medal has been awarded since 1988 by Stockholm University and the Nobel Committee for Physics of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Previous recipients include Nobel laureates Chen-Ning Yang, Steven Weinberg and Hans Bethe. Sen has earlier received the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics (2012), the Dirac Medal (2014), the Padma Shri (2001) and the Padma Bhushan (2013).
