German carmaker Audi will build its first factory in the United States. US President Donald Trump announced at a campaign rally in Perry, Georgia, on Saturday that Audi will invest about $4.2 billion in a plant in Macon, Georgia, which will produce 200,000 cars a year and create around 4,500 jobs.
Audi confirmed the investment, saying construction is scheduled to begin next year and production in the early 2030s. The announcement came 10 days before the November 3 midterm elections, and Trump presented it as a win for his tariff policy. Audi, part of the Volkswagen Group, said North America would become a third major pillar of its global production network, alongside Europe and China.
