India beat New Zealand by four wickets in Christchurch on Saturday to become the first team in history to record 200 wins in T20 international cricket. It was also India's 300th T20I — only Pakistan have played as many matches in the format. Batting first, New Zealand posted 180, built around a 116-run partnership between Glenn Phillips (70) and Bevon Jacobs (58).
India were in trouble at 112 for 6, but Tilak Varma (51 not out) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (26 not out) scored the 69 runs needed off the last 31 balls to win with one ball to spare. The win gives India a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. The third T20I will be played in Wellington on Tuesday, October 27, where New Zealand must win to keep the series alive.
