Delhi Traders Appeal: Defer Rally, Fearing Hit to Rs 12,000 Crore Business
Delhi's Chamber of Trade and Industry has written to Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, urging that the 1 November rally be deferred to after 10-11 November. The traders' body says business worth Rs 10,000-12,000 crore across nearly 20 major markets in central and old Delhi could be affected on this crucial day of Diwali preparations.
The traders have also suggested shifting the venue from Ramlila Maidan to Burari Ground, which they say has parking for around 15,000 vehicles. The Congress claims around 10 lakh people will attend, while Delhi Police anticipates a gathering of around 50,000.
